Offensive line coach Perles leaves program for another coaching opportunity

Syracuse offensive line coach Pat Perles is leaving the program, SU Athletics spokeswoman Sue Edson confirmed to The Daily Orange.

Edson said Perles is taking another coaching position, but could not say where he is going.

Perles spent just one season with the Orange after being hired on Feb. 1, 2013. He coached a line that opened holes for the fourth-best run game in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Behind senior center Macky MacPherson and junior left tackle Sean Hickey, the unit paved the way for Jerome Smith and Co. to average 193.8 rushing yards per game.

Before coming to SU, Perles spent three seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs — two as the assistant offensive line coach and one as a defensive quality control coach and assistant linebackers coach. Perles also spent six years at North Dakota State, moving from offensive line coach, to run game coordinator, to offensive coordinator. The three years before that were spent at Michigan State.

He is the second assistant coach to leave this offseason after wide receivers coach Rob Moore left to take the same position with the Buffalo Bills on Thursday.
