On Campus

Renovations made to SU campus over the summer

Improvements to a few residence halls and several academic buildings were the focus of campus-wide construction done over the summer.

Shaw Hall underwent some of the biggest changes, including a new entrance. Plans for future construction and renovations projects were also discussed and set in place this summer.

Here is a look at the changes that have been made to various buildings and locations on the SU campus.

Watson Hall

  • New outdoor space includes a paver patio area, plantings, sidewalks and a gas fire pit
  • Tables, chairs and benches are coming soon, according to an email sent by Chancellor Kent Syverud

Mount Olympus stair landing



  • New landing, replacing the previously covered bottom portion of the stairs, features granite steps, brick paver landings and a teak bench seating area
  • Heating in the steps, landings and sidewalks will ensure snow- and ice-free passage in winter for those traveling to and from Day and Flint Halls
  • A new covering will be installed in September

Sadler Hall

  • The built-ins, furniture and room doors have been replaced in all student rooms
  • Upgraded finishes have been added throughout the residence hall with new flooring and fresh paint schemes
  • The lobby and main lounge were renovated, including a more straightforward card access process

Hunting Beard Crouse Hall

  • Kittredge Auditorium was expanded and renovated
  • Construction was completed on accessible restrooms and a lactation room on the lower level, as well as an addition of a second single-occupancy restroom in the Gifford Auditorium lobby
  • There are plans to add an elevator stop at the Gifford Auditorium level next summer

Marion/Kimmel

  • New paint schemes
  • New flooring
  • Refinished wood doors and built-in wood furniture

Day Hall

  • A more curbside sidewalk in the front of the building
  • An additional ADA ramp

Holden Observatory

  • New accessible entrance walkway

Falk College

  • Updates to the building in order to house new departments

South Crouse Drive

  • Upgrades to stream and electrical distribution systems

Link Hall

  • Updated brick exterior on the top portion of the walls

Carnegie

  • New office suites in the Math Department
  • Fully accessible bathrooms on each level
  • Upgraded heating system

Newhouse II

  • New classrooms, offices
  • New computer clusters

Slocum Heights Apartments

  • Balcony and walkway repairs

Engineering Lab on South Campus

  • New building on South Campus

Vielbig Outdoor Running Track

  • New outdoor running track with turf field
