Syracuse, pictured celebrating in a win over RIT, held off Lindenwood late to win on Saturday.

Syracuse (12-18-2, 11-6-1 College Hockey Association) defeated Lindenwood (9-18-1, 7-11-0), 5-4, on Saturday at the Lindenwood Ice Arena. Outshooting its opponents by 12, SU tallied 5 goals on the day, the third time it has reached that mark in its past four games.

The Orange led by three goals with 15 minutes left in regulation, but the Lions scored twice in two minutes to bring the lead back down to one. Yet, SU was able to hold on in its third-to-last conference game of the season.

Shut out for almost all of the first period, Syracuse got on the board with 18 seconds remaining in the frame via junior defender Allie Munroe’s power-play goal. In the second, the Orange scored twice in less than two minutes to take a 3-2 lead entering the third. After freshman forward Emma Polaski and redshirt junior forward Brooke Avery scored early on in the third, the Orange sat on a comfortable three-goal lead.

A two-goal spurt from Lindenwood midway through the third period brought the Lions back within one. Up one goal with a minute and a half remaining, the Orange went onto the penalty kill after senior defender Megan Quinn was called for hooking. With the game on the line, freshman goaltender, Edith D’Astous-Moreau, starting in place of usual senior starter Abbey Miller, made two key saves in the final minute to seal the road win for Syracuse.

The Orange are now in third place in the CHA, two points behind both Robert Morris and Mercyhurst. Yet, SU has played one more game than the top two teams in the conference. With a home weekend series against Robert Morris approaching, SU has an opportunity to ascend in the standings before the CHA tournament begins.
