Syracuse women’s rowing stayed at No. 10 in this week’s Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll. The Orange have not moved in the rankings since April 24, when they moved down two spots from No. 8.

This past weekend, SU won its first ACC Championship in program history, snapping then-No. 16 Virginia’s 13-year streak of claiming the conference title. The Orange’s varsity 8 and second varsity 8 captured gold medals in their Grand Final races — the second straight ACC victory for the V8 and the 2V8’s first ever.

After all five races, SU was tied with UVA for first place with 90 points, but the varsity 8’s win broke the draw in favor of the Orange. Then-No. 15 Duke finished in third place with 78 points while Notre Dame’s 68 points placed fourth.

“This means everything,” head coach Luke McGee said in a press release following the trophy presentation. “Every woman who has come through this program since I have been here, making us a little bit better, a little bit faster, a little bit stronger, and then this team actually breaking through and winning the ACC championship … is really special.”

With its ACC Championship win, Syracuse was granted an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. The varsity 8 was handed the No. 8 seed for the event while the second varsity 8 and varsity 4 received the No. 9 and 17 seeds, respectively. SU will compete at NCAAs from May 31 to June 2 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
